Bedroom Theater

I had been planning to mount my projector on the ceiling in my bedroom and run the cables for it through the ceiling and down through the wall next to my bedside table ever since I moved in, and I finally got around to it this fall when the attic wasn't too hot.  Until now, my projector has been sitting on a table at the foot of my bed with wires running all over the floor, so this is a much better solution.  The first task was to find the correct position for the projector in order to yield a square image that is centered on the wall.

With the position of the projector nailed down, I can install the cross brace to which the mounting bracket will be fastened, which you can see on the left.  Also, the junction box that will house video and power is installed immediately behind it.

Here I have the projector hung and all the wiring roughed in, ready to install an outlet and a nylon divider plate to separate the low voltage wiring from the AC wiring.

After investigating all the circuits that I could potentially tie into, I chose the circuit for the gameroom outlets, which also powers the smoke detectors.  I don't know why the builder didn't anchor his Romex to the joist, but I anchored mine.

Above the wall that will carry the video cables down to my bedside table, I've cut through the top plate and need a bit extension to cut through the fire blocking.

I fabricated a faceplate to have DVI-I and S-Video out of a blank with my Dremel.

Work on the ceiling is finished, with AC outlet and video faceplate installed.

The projector is now very convenient to use and all of the wiring is tidy and out of the way.  Up next will be building an HTPC that can be hidden away in the bedside table.
