This is the first part of an ongoing project to install a sprinkler system.
Getting Started
I had the utility companies out to mark service lines, but the water utility said their point of demarcation was at the curb, and didn't mark the water line. This meant that my first task was to locate the water supply line and excavate around it.
Initially, I used a threaded fitting to connect to the main line for an easy disconnect in case I needed to do any maintenance downstream, but I don't think I used enough teflon tape and it leaked just a bit, so I replaced it with a solvent weld connection.
If you can follow this jumble of pipes, the supply connection runs through a shutoff valve, the backflow preventer, and eventually a drain valve, zone valve manifold, and supply line to the backyard.
Here you can see the laterals for the front yard zones and the 1" supply line for the backyard system:
Now the lower half of the front yard is done, onto the upper portion.
