The stairway originally had a pie shaped winder step where the landing should be, and I decided that needed to be straightened out before I put the new hardwood flooring on it.
The demo is mostly done and I'm ready to start rebuilding:

The existing riser kept the step below the landing from being perfectly level, so in order to make the landing level, I had to build a wedge shaped shim to cut the next riser at an angle:
With the angle-cut riser, I have a perfectly level frame for the landing:

| The decking on the winder step was two layers of 3/4" plywood which, thanks to J.A., were a huge pain to remove since he decided to sign his work Rambo-style with a finish nailer: |
