The fence on the north side of the yard was in similar shape to the one opposite it before it was replaced, so it's time to build another fence. I wanted to avoid as much manual digging as possible, so we tried again to use a farm jack to pull them out. I had tried this before, but without a base that straddles the hole and braces to keep the jack vertical, we didn't have much luck. We still had to do some digging this time around, but with a 4x6 beam across cinder blocks and 2x4 braces to hold the jack upright, we were able to extract the rest of the post.
The existing posts on the side yard were newer and in pretty decent shape, so we are going to just leave them set and coat them with some sealant. There they are next to the new posts for the gate:
