Here, you can see the old beams cut off mid-span and resting on a temporary support column. All of the joists that were bearing on them have been removed, so now I can demolish and reconstruct the stairway wall:
With the old framing removed, I plumbed a new 4x4 post that rises to the level of the new floor and set an LVL header on top to carry the last set of joists:
Now I set the last set of joists on the west side of the workshop:
Here's the new wall all framed up and ready for electrical rough-in:
After bolting down a section of sole plate to fill in a gap on the left, I framed up a cripple wall to support the edge of the subfloor:

Where do those doors lead? The door at the top of the stairs leads to the living room, and the door by the window leads to the back yard, perhaps?
