| After renting a machine to cut trenches, there was still plenty of manual work to clean out the bottoms and remove some stubborn rocks, which proved to be an entire weekend project by itself. All of this work really paid off when I could sit back and water the grass with the flip of a switch - and now that I have the garden area plumbed and backfilled, maybe I can start a fall garden. |
Fitting five zone valves and a drain valve inside the medium sized vault I bought was a squeeze. We'll see if I regret this later when I have to work on one of the valves.
I ran conduit to carry the valve control wiring, which enters the house through hardiplank into the hot water closet.

Pipes and fittings:
The corner where the garden will be has fittings to place a sprinkler either in the corner of the yard, or about 5 feet over to sit just outside of the garden. It also has a steel riser that terminates just above grade to supply a drip irrigation system that is controlled by an automatic valve, plus a spigot for a hose that will be pressurized throughout the warm months.
