On our last full day on the island, we wanted to do nothing more than just relax and enjoy our private beach. We laid out and chatted between chapters of Amy's book until we decided that I would reveal the details of the next segment of our Bahamian Adventure. After a quick guessing session of which island in the Bahamas we were bound for, Amy found out that we would be flying from rustic Deadman's Cay back to the metropolis of Nassau to stay at the billion-dollar Atlantis Paradise Island megaresort. We talked about all of the activities and amenities that we had to look forward to, not the least of which being air conditioning and high pressure showers. After lunch, we chatted and Amy read while I watched for any passing boats that might intrude into our lagoon but only saw one fishing boat about a mile off heading home with their catch. We fired up the boat and headed eagerly for Seaside Village for a fresh seafood dinner and an update on Kenny's new kitchen construction. Since he was busy in the old kitchen with a previous order, we made use of the feel-free-to-come-behind-the-bar-and-get-what-you-need policy and relaxed as the sun began to sink. We both ordered the fried fish and it was literally fresh-off-the-boat and delicious. We reluctantly said goodbye to Kenny and headed back to our island to enjoy the evening breeze and get some sunset pictures.
The moon over the palms:
We had heard about the land crabs from the blogs of previous travelers and that they were huge and uglier than sin, and I think it worked out well that we waited until our last night to look for them. I can tell you that if there is a corner of hell where nightmares are manufactured, it is crawling with these:
And then I saw the second one looking at me:
Safely back inside the house, we looked back on a week in paradise that was both relaxing and exciting as we enjoyed one more night listening to the cool breeze brush the palm branches. Tomorrow we will be trading this paradise island that is true in form for one in name as we board our plane and head for Paradise Island, New Providence. This past week has been absolutely incredible; the Bahamian Adventure of a lifetime.
